DNA Appliance Therapy will gently expand the upper jaw while keeping the bite balanced. The DNA treats the bite and the airway at the same time. The 3D expansion increases the size of the nasal passageways and the mouth. As the upper jaw expands, this allows the lower jaw to enlarge, and moves more forward into a more natural position. As the lower jaw moves forward, the tongue and soft tissue follow allowing more room to exist, creating a larger and less obstructed upper airway. The result is improved breathing function, resolution of clenching/bite problems and improved posture. Overall this will improve a person's breathing.
Benefits of DNA Appliance Therapy:
A “mandibular” Repositioning Nighttime Appliance (mRNA) is an oral device that some dentists use that provides combined maxilla-mandibular correction. This appliance is worn at night, allowing the body to reposition the mandible and gently redevelop the mid-face. This device can also help to remodel the upper airway, allowing the shifting teeth into a more natural position. By bringing the lower jaw forward, tissues are lifted off the airway, improving breathing. While the lower jaw is being held forward by the” mRNA” appliance, the upper jaw is stimulated to grow, which remodels the airway. Unlike many other sleep apnea appliances that merely open the airway during use, the growth and redevelopment provided by the mRNA appliance is a potential cure for sleep apnea and TMD (temporomandibular dysfunction).
The mRNA appliance might be right for you if you suffer from:
* The temporomandibular joint or (TMJ) acts like a sliding hinge, connecting your jawbone to your skull. Dysfunction can lead to pain and discomfort. Jaw pain, difficulty chewing, and clicking and locking of the jaw joint are some of the symptoms. Common treatments include medications, bite guards, and physical therapy.
Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are disorders that arise from problems with the occlusion (the contact between teeth), jaw joint, and surrounding facial muscles that control chewing and moving the jaw. Symptoms include: clicking/popping sounds in the jaw, jaws that get 'stuck' or 'locked' in the open- or closed-mouth position, difficulty chewing, and swelling/pain/tenderness in the face.
